"Timber, steel, and the last light of Overijssel."
Barnhouse Overijssel — New Residential Construction | Overijssel, Netherlands
A contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Dutch barn, rooted in the quiet landscape of Overijssel. Two interlocking gabled volumes clad in vertical timber and standing seam metal roofing echo the agricultural heritage of the region while embracing a decidedly modern sensibility.
Floor to ceiling glazing at the gable ends and a continuous band of large windows along the base dissolve the boundary between interior warmth and the surrounding meadow. Roof dormers punctuate the steep metal slopes, drawing daylight deep into the living spaces while preserving the clean, unbroken silhouette of the barn form.
At dusk, the amber glow from within transforms the house into a lantern set against the trees a home that belongs entirely to its landscape.
