"A row of peaks against the sky… structure as landscape."
Plaza Quetzal — Community Public Space | Tecámac, State of Mexico
A gesture of infrastructure that gives the street back to the people. Plaza Quetzal is an open public space designed for the Valley of Mexico, where the sun is generous and shade is a collective good. A rhythmic sequence of sawtooth roofs unfolds over concrete columns, creating a light and continuous canopy that shelters without enclosing, that defines without dividing.
The structure expresses its own logic without concealing it: steel frames painted in yellow articulate each triangular module, turning engineering into ornament and giving the ensemble a festive and recognizable presence from the street. Beneath the canopy, tables, benches, and a children's play area form a simple and effective program, designed for all ages and for the everyday life of the neighborhood.
Xerophytic vegetation integrated into the perimeter embankment anchors the project to the landscape of the Mexican highlands, a reminder that public architecture does not end at the slab but in the earth that surrounds it.
